Georgetown University has established guidelines concerning support of professional leave for academic and administrative professional employees.
The University will support paid leave for administrative and academic employees for purposes of professional development or for related research and writing.
An administrative and academic employee who has completed seven years of full time service may be approved for professional leave for purposes of professional development or for related research and writing.
Professional leave is subject to the approval of the appropriate Executive Vice President, the Provost, or the Senior Vice President if deemed to be in the best interest of the institution.
Professional leave can be permitted up to ten weeks of leave at full pay.
The Executive Vice President, the Provost, or Senior Vice President should request a written proposal and follow up report describing the purpose and results of the leave.
Executive Vice Presidents, the Provost, and the Senior Vice President are responsible for approving or disapproving requests for professional leaves.
For more information concerning this policy, please contact the office of the appropriate Executive Vice President, the Provost, or the Senior Vice President.
