Curriculum

Hoya Kids Learning Center implements Emergent Curriculum which is built on the interests that emerge from our daily lives with children. Our children provide the ideas that form a foundation for activities and units of study that are then prepared, organized, coordinated, and facilitated by the teachers. It requires teachers to be perceptive, flexible, spontaneous, and skilled observers. Young children learn by doing, touching, experimenting, choosing, talking, and negotiating. Everything is a potential curriculum for young children. Our curriculum approach builds on interests that emerge from our daily lives with the children. Our children provide the ideas that form a foundation for activities and units of study that are then prepared, organized, coordinated, and facilitated by the teachers.

Each member of the teaching staff is responsible for being knowledgeable about our curriculum philosophy. A full, detailed description of our curriculum is found in the Curriculum Handbook which will be given to and reviewed with each teaching staff member upon employment and periodically as necessary. Staff members are expected to refer to this handbook as necessary and speak with the Assistant Director (who oversees curriculum) if assistance is needed. Each teacher should be able to adequately explain our curriculum philosophy to parents.
